EVO History

EVO Electric Limited was founded in late 2006 by Dr Michael Lampérth and Dr Malte Jaensch to commercialise Axial Flux technology first developed within the Hybrid Power Research Group at Imperial College London. Having confirmed the tremendous market potential of this technology through independent testing at Ricardo Plc and early engagement with potential customers in the hybrid and electric vehicle market, commercial activities were established in June 2007 with seed capital from private individuals and professional investors including Imperial Innovations Plc.

In the early stages EVO Electric operated from the Imperial Incubator, a facility dedicated to providing office and laboratory space for newly founded companies. In order to allow for the rapid expansion of the company, triggered by increasing industrial interest and faster-than-anticipated growth in global hybrid and electric vehicle R&D activity, EVO soon relocated from the Imperial Incubator to new premises in Woking, Surrey.

The new facilities available, which include high-power electric machine and generator set test facilities, a prototyping workshop and a dedicated assembly area enabled the engineering team to further improve and optimise Axial Flux technology, and develop the product range currently on offer.

Over the last couple of years EVO’s team was constantly expanded to include experienced technical, purchasing and business development managers. The company has also benefited from the business acumen, managerial experience and hands-on advice provided by Imperial Innovations and an impressive group of advisors. In late 2008 David Latimer, a mechanical engineer with substantial experience in leading electric machine manufacturers, took over as CEO from Peter Beynon who managed the initial start-up period of the business.

Currently, EVO Electric is developing and producing electric machines and integrated power systems with and for customers from areas as diverse as military equipment, electric and hybrid electric vehicles, electric boats and wind power generation. We strongly believe that EVO’s future is bright because our future is electric.
